Who will be handling my placenta?

A professionally trained postpartum placenta specialist will prepare your placenta in the safest place possible: your own home. Your postpartum placenta specialist completed an extensive hands-on training program, along with completing an OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Certification that ensures your safety.

As Professional postpartum placenta specialists we exceed industry standards to ensure the safety and treatment of your placenta. The guidelines laid out by ProDoula’s Certified Postpartum Placenta Specialist Training far exceed the standards in this industry. Working with the vital organ that supplied life to your newborn, these high standards of practice will allow you the confidence that your placenta is treated with professionalism and respect.

What happens after I give birth?

According to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization, you need to be responsible for the transport of your placenta. At your 38 week mark, your postpartum placenta specialist will provide you with a placenta transport kit and their contact information. The kit we loan to you has everything you need to safely store and secure your placenta with proper labels and required spill kit accessories.

It is expected when your labor starts you will contact your postpartum placenta specialist to alert them that you’ll be delivering soon. After your delivery, you will contact them to let them know your placenta has been transported to your home and is ready for processing. At this time your postpartum placenta specialist will work with you to schedule their first visit to start your encapsulation.

Your postpartum placenta specialist will arrive and begin the encapsulating process using our own equipment and a portion of your counter top.

As a bonus, your postpartum placenta specialist is also trained as a postpartum doula. During the process, there will be times when they are available to give you their full attention. Having a postpartum doula in your home just days after delivery to provide support, education, and comfort is a wonderful bonus. We are there. And we are coming back tomorrow! The entire process requires us to use your kitchen for about two hours on each of two sequential days.

Before your postpartum placenta specialist leaves, you will receive usage information with your encapsulated placenta and your postpartum placenta specialist will answer any questions you may have.

The preceding information is provided to address any concerns or questions you may have about Placenta Encapsulation. Contact us if you have any questions.

Emerald City Doulas only works with ProDoula trained and certified/pre-certified postpartum placenta specialists. This is because we feel it is important that you are in possession of your placenta from the very start, and are aware of how it is handled, and you can ask questions during the process.
